Three groups of university students: 1. students
in the 3rd and 4th semester, 2. all students in the 7th and 8th semester as
well as 3. all students who registered for the government examination
between 1. Jan. and 30. Jun. 1965.
Beyond this students whose academic instructors expected that they
would be able to complete their final examination by the end of the year
in the subjects German, classical Philology and Physics.

Social situation, study conditions, occupation concepts and socialconduct of philology and physics students at three German universities. Topics: Earlier vocational training and employment before start ofcourse of studies; study motivation; advice centers in the choice ofsubject; satisfaction with advice on studies; change of college;examination sought; examinations passed; judgement on supervision ofperformance through earning certificates and intermediate examinations;general work and study conditions; use of institute libraries anduniversity library; difficulties in obtaining literature; factual andpersonal integration; participation in tutoring groups; scientific andpersonal contact with college instructors; study work during thesemester and in semester breaks; working on material after lectures;intensity of study work; number of hours registered and attened eachweek; attending courses outside of subject; studies expectations andstudies reality; concepts of later occupation; judgement on relevanceof studies to occupation; assessment of occupation prospects andsignificance of examination grades; delaying examination for the sakeof better grades; attitude to a stronger regimentation of studies inthe beginning semesters; personal participation in introductioncourses; attitude to teams and voluntary examinations; attitude toobjectivation of examinations; assessment of the duration of studiesand reasons for lengthening studies; attitude to a time limit forstudies; attitude to second studies; possession and purchase oftechnical literature; financial security of studies and work during thesemester as well as in semester breaks; distraction from studiesthrough work; average money expenditures each month; membership inorganizations; illnesses; student housing; social and regional origins;school education of siblings, parents and grandparents; engagement.
