    Knowledge about political conditions in the USA in comparison to knowledge about West German conditions. Topics: Most important problems of the FRG; judgement on the opportunities of political influence, freedom of the press, freedom in general and political interest among the Americans in comparison to the Germans; attitude to democracy and comparative judgement on western democracies; assessment of the effects of race problems in the USA on the image of America; knowledge about democratic organs, politicians, parties, elections, eligibility to vote, election systems and school system in the USA and the FRG; things perceived in common between Americans and Germans; judgement on American policies regarding the FRG; assumed attitude of the USA to Western European unification and rearmament; estimate of American and German proportion of population with college education; attitude to education; outstanding cultural achievement of America; image of Americans (scale); preferred sources of information about the USA; participation in political and economic meetings; membership in clubs, trade unions or a party; party preference; local residency. Demography: age (classified); sex; religious denomination; school education; occupation; employment; household income; self-assessment of social class; state; refugee status. Interviewer rating: number of contact attempts; social class and willingness of respondent to cooperate. Additionally encoded was: identification of interviewer; sex of interviewer and age of interviewer.
