    Neighborhood and satisfaction in small settlements. The significance of the yard for the residents of small settlements. Topics: Length of residence in the small settlement; residential furnishings and satisfaction with housing situation; manner of residence acquisition and reasons for the acquisition of place in a small settlement; personal participation in construction; neighborhood help (scale); greeting habits in the settlement; participation in community life and in social events; existence of interest groups and clubs; memberships and offices accepted by all members of household; advantages and disadvantages of the settlement community; self-image of the residents of the small settlement; lack of institutions in social surroundings; satisfaction with plot size; yard use and use of garden products; pleasure in yard work; type of fertilization and use of pesticides; keeping animals and breeding animals; vacation habits; reading the magazine ´Siedler´ and preferred categories; purpose as well as frequencies of trips to the center of town and means of transport used for this; side job of both partners; commuting times to work; previous changes of place of residence due to change of job; work satisfaction; inclination to move given a favorable job offer; attitude of the children to the settlement; amount of taxes as well as interest and repayment costs. Demography: school education; occupation; professional position; income; household income; size of household; composition of household; refugee status; possession of durable economic goods. Sampled Universe
Members in settlement communities (Siedlerverein) of the German Siedlerbund (DSB).
Sampling Procedure Comment: Quota sample The quotas were determined by location and time of construction: 400 interviews each in settlement communities in a. rural municipalities, b. the vicinity of medium-sized cities, and c. conurbations; of these about 130 from construction years a. before 1950, b. 1950-1957, c. after 1957. Additionally a regionalization according to north and south was conducted.

A split questionnaire was used. With one question the sequence of presenting the answer categories was exchanged. A comparable investigation about residential habits of those possessing their own home and renters in state-subsidized apartments is archived under ZA Study No. 0666.
