    Attitude of West German elites to technical progress, use of new technologies in personal work area and natural science. Topics: Detailed determination of course of professional career; general characterization of personal occupation; attitude to use of computers in individual areas of the economy and politics, differentiated according to documentation tasks, decision aids and complete acceptance of decision-making; assessment of the possibilities of use of computers and rationalization measures in personal function area; expected conflicts and those possibly already having taken place regarding rationalization in personal activity area; expressive traffic circles; communication habits; sources of technical information; assessment of the social prestige of various occupations; attitude to natural science occupations; judgement on the extent to which the population is informed about technology and politics; expected social consequences of technical progress; openness to innovation; educational goals and primary tasks of the school; significance of one´s own school education for one´s own professional career; judgement on the image of the individual school degrees; attitude to a so-called leisure education; contacts with journalists; memberships; assessment of the loss of power of executives through new technologies; general judgement on the extent to which decision-makers are informed; attitude to technology (scale); social origins. Demography: age; marital status; number of children; religious denomination; religiousness; political discussion. Interviewer rating: length of interview; date of interview; interruptions of interview. Also encoded was: identification of interviewer.

Sampling Procedure Comment: The sample is two-part: 1. Sample of elites from the areas politics, management, jurisdiction, economy, science, education, trade union, church, traffic, associations, press, radio and journalism according to the position and reputation technology. 2. Simple random selection of 65 writers from the member list of the ´Deutsches Pen-Zentrum´ and the ´Deutsche Akademie fuer Sprache und Dichtung´.
