    The situation and social contacts of prisoners. Judgement on the penal system from the view of prisoners. Topics: Type and number of contact persons; group affiliation of contact persons and communication duration; assessment of reliability and sympathy of contact persons; satisfaction with contact opportunities; frequency of care of respondent; group affiliation; action orientation; personal norms and norms of contact persons; socialization; most unpleasant conditions in the institution; perceived personal probability of relapse; perceived opportunities to influence his environment; self-assessment of chance to become successful in life; satisfaction with work and type of institution work; satisfaction with payment; presence of social security; satisfaction with opportunities for leisure activity; obligation to pay support costs; debts; upbringing in home or institution; earlier prison sentences; total length of imprisonment; regular residence after release from prison. With the vast majorigy of questions the respondent was asked to check the response on a 20-level continuum. Demography: age; sex; marital status; family composition; number of children; school education; vocational training; occupation.

Inmates imprisoned due to offenses against property selected according to the sample criteria ´detention length´ and ´prisoner group´ from the Justizvollzugsanstalt Kiel, the Strafanstalt Vierlande near Hamburg and the Justizvollzugsanstalt Berlin-Tegel.

97 prisoners were interviewed in Berlin, 117 in Vierlande and 88 in Kiel. The analysis unit in this data set are the contact persons of the prisoner who play a significant role in the survey. Unter this point of view the current data set contains 1812 units.
