AbstractLocal political views, possibilities to influence, balance of power and communication network of local the elite in Reutlingen. Topics: importance of local disputes; judgement on room for autonomous decision by the city and most effective special interest associations; identification of special interest groups in the city; consideration of the parties for certain groupings; naming the person with the greatest influence and the greatest power in the city; private and business communication partners; friendships; memberships and offices accepted; most important aids to achieve local influence; judgement on a series of local issues such as e.g. mayor election, youth center, establishment of an industry area and co-determination at the city works; personal participation in local political decision-making processes and identification of the groups involved; political and ideological orientation of respondent; understanding of democracy; attitude to nuclear power plants and the market economy. Demography: regional and social origins; party membership; party preference; voting behavior at the last mayor election; age; sex; religious denomination; school education; occupation; state; present and past offices held; memberships.
