    Nutrition habits as well as knowledge and conduct in the area of health among schoolchildren in the second school year. Topics: Possession and use of care utensils and cosmetics; hygiene habits; daily body care; frequency of showering or bathing per week; frequency of cleaning teeth; frequency of change of clothing and underwear; conduct regarding strange persons; desired and actual eating habits in school breaks and at the other meals; times of day at which one is particularly tired; sequence of activities at getting up. To condition understanding of the quantity symbols used in the questionnaire at the beginning of the survey some tasks were posed, whose correct or wrong solutions likewise have been retained. Additionally a general evaluation of the questionnaire was conducted in the form of a scale. Demography: age; sex. Also encoded were: class index and city size.

Collection Mode
  • Survey in school with a picture questionnaire to be filled out by the schoolchildren. The question formulations were presented by the respective home-room teacher.

The study is part of a representative investigation conducted nation-wide in the framework of which altogether 25671 schoolchildren at different kinds of schools were interviewed. Parts of these surveys are archived under ZA Study Nos. 1006 to 1012. Beyond this parents (ZA Study Nos. 1014 and 1025) as well as teachers (ZA Study No. 1013) were also interviewed on the topic of health education. In order to prevent "copying" by schoolchildren the respective "survey neighbor" in the classroom was given a different questionnaire. This questionnaire even had in part different question contents. The alternative questionnaire used with the age group described here (forms A2) is described under ZA Study No. 1008.
