    The significance of parental home for the transfer of one´s children to a high school or secondary school. Topics: reasons for not registering the child for a secondary school after the 4th grade; reasons for or against the choice of school made; certainty of the decision and time of decision; teachers as advisers in the decision; initiative on the part of the school or parents; type of school recommended by the teacher; vocational plans for the child; assessment of the joy of learning or school difficulties of the child; attitude of the child to secondary school; children or parents as decision-makers in the choice of school type; judgement on school achievements of the child; school grades at the end of the 4th grade; contacts with teachers; participation in parents evenings and conversations with other parents of schoolchildren; judgement on teachers and school before the transfer; image of types of school; social contacts and reference groups; reactions of neighborhood to the transfer to another type of school; assessment of the joy of learning or school difficulties of the child; supervision of homework; tutoring; participation in talent test and result; educational goals of school and parents; sanction conduct with poor school performance; socialization by school and parental home; training goals and vocational plans; financial aspects of training; watching television by the child; main focus of interests and most important problems of parents; general contentment with life; general image of society; belief in progress; satisfaction with personal school training and assessment of the importance of school training for occupational career; dealing with other persons with status difference; prospects of advancement; assessment of personal job security; education level of circle of friends; attitude to school and education (scale); with schoolchildren in the 4th grade who had not yet transferred additional questions were posed: receiving a bag of candy from the city on the first day of school; intended change after the 5th grade. The current data set contains the data of a panel survey with two waves. The first survey was conducted in June and July 1968 and the second in June and July 1969. In both cases similar questionnaires were used. This data set contains the 498 panel cases from the first survey of 1729 cases that is archived in its entirety under ZA Study No. 0893.
