    The ZUMABUS contains the following main survey focus areas: 1. Use of gambling machines 2. Role of men 3. Use of magazines and questions on the youth literature prize 4. ZUMA standard demography 5. Miscellaneous Topics: 1. Use of gambling machines: time of last use of a slot machine; frequency of use of a slot machine. 2. Role of men: taking notice of media reporting about the position of men in our society; perception of a changed role model of the man compared to earlier; description of the man in his relation to the woman as well as compared to other men and judgement on these relation characteristics (scale); further important characteristics of the man; characterization and judgement on the characteristics of a ´real´ man; opinions and ideas on differences between men and women (scale); assumed reasons for an affair or a longer extra-marital relation by the man; assumed reasons for not showing weakness by men (scale); major reason for achievement pressure among men; assignment of responsibility for acts of violence in partnerships (scale); self-characterization as man (polarity profile); postmaterialism scale. 3. Use of magazines and questions on the youth literature prize: weekly and monthly magazines regularly read; knowledge of selected books; knowledge about the German youth literature prize; orientation in checking out or purchasing children and youth books on recommendations of the German youth literature prize. 4. ZUMA standard demography: see ZA Study No. 0814 and 1233. 5. Miscellaneous: a) respondents outside of Dortmund were asked: degree of familiarity with the city of Dortmund; time of last stay in Dortmund; month of stay in Dortmund and number of days spent there. b) women born between the years 1930 to 1967 were interviewed with a supplemental written questionnaire: abortions since January 1976; conducting of the abortion abroad or in the Federal Republic; difficulties with a government office due to the abortion; year of abortion and type of consultation. Demography: age; sex; marital status; religious denomination; religiousness; school education; school attendance and school degree sought; age at end of school education; occupational training; occupation; occupational position; income; household income; household size; household composition; voting behavior at the last Federal Parliament Election; self-assessment of social class; possession of telephone. Interviewer rating: presence of others and their intervention in interview; reliability and willingness of respondent to cooperate; length of interview; date of interview; sex of interviewer.

After being filled out the written supplementary survey on abortion was given to the interviewer in a sealed envelope. A split questionnaire was used: with the question on knowledge of youth books two different book lists were presented.
