AbstractThe social and economic situation of foreign workers in the Federal Republic. Consumer habits and money questions. Topics: 1. Economic and social situation: current and intended further length of stay in the FRG; frequency of home visits in the last few years; preferred travel month and means of transport used; family members in the Federal Republic; time of moving to Germany by family members; greatest concerns and difficulties in the Federal Republic; assumed attitude of Germans to guest workers; judgement on the effort of trade unions, authorities, organizations and associations for the problems of foreign workers; most important tasks of trade unions; job satisfaction; interest in German citizenship; party preference. 2. Money questions: knowledge and use of investment possibilities; amount of total sum in German savings accounts; name of credit institute; number of completed building loan contracts in the Federal Republic; year of completion of contract; agent; degree to which informed about contents of building loan contract and procedures in general; savings purpose; satisfaction with service by the Loan and Building Association after end of contract; amount of money transfers and money taken home by the respondent or members of household. 3. Smoking habits: frequency of smoking selected tobacco products; preferred brand; use of cigarettes per day; change of brand of cigarettes; shopping place and purchase from machine; smoking behavior yesterday in form of personal, preferred brand and other brands; extent and brands of cigarettes taken home. 4. Consumer habits and miscellaneous: preferred type of coffee; daily coffee consumption and manner of preparation as well as brand; judgement on one´s own current economic situation and future development; assessment of occupational chances in comparison to German workers; unemployment; short time work; industry branch; housing situation and satisfaction with housing; length of school attendance; actual amount of rent and maximum justifiable costs; car possession and brand; purchased new or used; car radio possession and brand; German magazines and newspapers read. Demography: age; sex; occupational training; occupation; employment; area of business of company; income residential status; state. Interviewer rating: disturbances of the course of the interview; assessment of the ability to communicate; willingness of respondent to cooperate; assessment of knowledge of national language as well as of the German language; city size.
