Sampling
The sample for the supplementary telephone survey is divided in two: 1. Census of the group of persons with whom in the ALLBUS survey 1986 no interview took place (non-responses), with the exception of non-completions not affecting quality and those explicitly refusing. 2. Simple random selection from the respondents of the main survey, in that every fifth interview in sequence of receipt was selected for the supplementary telephone survey. Census of the interviewers of the ALLBUS main survey. On the sampling procedure of the main survey see the information in ZA Study No. 1500.

Note
The data set is based on the 5278 units of the cleaned sample of the ALLBUS survey 1986. It was possible to interview 670 persons of the 2184 non-responses of the main survey and 407 persons of 619 selected responses (every fifth respondent of the main survey) in the supplementary telephone survey. The main survey of the ALLBUS 1986 was conducted in the form of an oral survey. In order to be able to investigate more closely the influence of interviewers on willingness to participate in the interview, all interviewers of the main survey were interviewed with a short written questionnaire. The supplementary telephone survey was conducted between June 1986 and September 1986. The ALLBUS survey 1986 is archived under ZA Study No. 1500.
