Abstract
Judgement on questions of security policy as well as the East-West relationship. Attitude to the policies of the USA. Topics: judgement on the seriousness of the situation of the Federal Republic as well as economic development in the next few years; judgement on the prospects for peace in Europe, unemployment and current East-West relationship and assessment of future development; self-assessment of extent to which informed and of interest in the topics of unemployment, environmental protection, German-German relations, welfare state, defense policy, German-American relations, municipal policies and education policies; behavior at the polls in the last Federal Parliament election and party preference; party inclination; perceived military threat from the Soviet Union; balance of power of NATO and Warsaw Pact; seriousness of disarmament interest in east and west; dependence of the Federal Republic on the USA; attitude to women in the Federal German Armed Forces; judgement on the policies to reduce tension of the Federal Government; attitude to NATO membership; attitude to use of nuclear weapons on West German territory; reliability of the USA in the case of defense; benefit of US troops in the Federal Republic; judgement on solidarity in NATO; attitude to the policies of Reagan; suitability of selected political manners of proceeding to secure peace and freedom in the Federal Republic (scale); attitude to nuclear deterrence; assessment of the political intents of the USSR and the USA regarding securing of peace and influence on other countries or allies; assessment of the success of the NATO two-track decision and expected result of the Geneva negotiations; assessment of the seriousness of the negotiations between the USA and the USSR on the missile question; attitude to stationing US missiles in the Federal Republic; attitude to a public opinion poll or a decision of the Federal Parliament about stationing American nuclear missiles; preference for recommendations of the party regarding participation in peace demonstrations; preference for a stronger reliance on or greater independence from the USA; knowledge about the ´new defense policy´ with more conventional military forces; assumed attitude of American and German parties on this defense strategy; attitude to the peace movement (scale); possibilites of improving relations between the two German nations; judgement on the Strauss talks with Honecker; attitude to intensification of criminal law for demonstrations and a law requiring demonstrators to leave their faces uncovered; attitude to further talks with the GDR, even given increased tensions between the superpowers; stronger interest of the Federal Government or the government of the GDR in improving German-German relations; personal intent to participate in protests and demonstrations in case of stationing of missiles; participation even if violent rioting expected; willingness to participate in selected forms of protest with and without official permission (scale); expectation of violent rioting during demonstrations; judgement on American policies in the areas of defense policy, policies to reduce tensions, stationing weapons in space (SDI), policies on Central America; export prohibition for high-quality industry goods to the Soviet Union and trade restrictions against Poland; union membership and membership in a professional organization.
