    The main survey focus of this Eurobarometer is: 1. Political attitudes and satisfaction 2. Attitudes to the EC and European unification 3. Attitude to nuclear energy and questions on radioactivity Topics: 1. Political attitudes and satisfaction: citizenship and eligibility to vote at place of residence; contentment with life; satisfaction with democracy; personal opinion leadership and frequency of political discussions; postmaterialism index; attitude to revolutionary social reforms. 2. Attitudes to the EC and European unification: attitude to unification of Western Europe; attitude to EC membership of the country; advantages or disadvantages for the country from EC membership; regret of a failure of the EC; political interest and interest in EC policies; significance of EC matters for the country; preferred sources of information about the EC; feeling as European or national citizen; solidarity with European manners of behavior, moral concepts and life styles; European or national thinking in sports; approval of a Europe emblem on the jerseys of national Olympic teams; attitude to foreign players in soccer teams; interest in selected types of sport; attitude to summer time; knowledge about the European domestic market; hopes and fears in connection with the coming domestic market; preference for national or European decision-making authority in selected political areas; attitude to a European social charter; attitude to EC-wide regulations in selected social areas; knowledge and judgement on the EC Commission; attitude to the EC policy regarding Central and Eastern Europe; changed consciousness regarding the EC from the changes in Central and Eastern Europe; preference for European domestic market or integration of Eastern European and Western European nations; attitude to unification of the two German nations; assessment of the significance of German unification for European integration; areas in which the Germans feel the greatest solidarity with each other; trust in the population of selected countries; knowledge and attitude to the European Parliament; significance of the European Parliament for life in the EC and daily life of individual citizens; attitude to increasing the significance of the European Parliament; attitude to forming a European Union and a European Government; assessment of danger from fascists and communists for the way of life in the country; attitude to a prohibition of political activities for fascists and communists. 3. Attitude to nuclear energy and questions on radioactivity: assessment of the danger from radioactive radiation in selected situations; attitude to radioactivity and nuclear energy; satisfaction with information about radioactivity in the country and reasons for this satisfaction or dissatisfaction; trustworthiness of selected sources of information on the topic of radioactivity and criteria for credibility of sources of information in this area. Demography: self-assessment on the left-right continuum; party allegiance and party preference; behavior at the polls in the last national election; party affiliation; union membership; marital status; age at end of education; sex; age; size of household; number of children in household; monthly household income; occupational position; employment in the civil service or private enterprise (company sector); company size; supervisor status; position in household; occupation of head of household; self-assessment of social class; residential status; degree of urbanization; religious denomination; frequency of church attendance; religiousness; city size; region. The following questions were also posed in the FRG: unification of the two German nations under condition of leaving NATO or the EC; degree of willingness to sacrifice income for the benefit of support for the former GDR. Also encoded were: date of interview; time of start of interview; presence of third persons during interview; willingness of respondent to cooperate; city size.
