    Attitudes of elites and persons influencing opinion; questions of economic policy. Topics: most important tasks of large companies; expected development of the dollar exchange rate until the end of 1989 and of the growth rate of the gross national product in 1989; inflation expectation for 1989; expected unemployment figures; preferred measures to combat unemployment; judgement on the importance of European cooperation in selected areas; most able politicians in selected subject areas; usage of the print media; German products in international competition; effects of the EC domestic market on selected area of business in the FRG; prognosis for the Federal Parliament election; effect of a red-green coalition on the economy; party preference; preferred measures for more flexible handling of working hours. Also encoded was: the position and area of responsibility of respondent.

Note
The investigation is part of a trend survey conducted every two years since 1973. Besides repeating a series of equivalent question formulations, in addition topics of economic policy current at the time are also collected. The first study in this series is archived under ZA Study No. 1632. Of the 928 opinion makers 848 were interviewed in writing and 80 in person. The respondent group comprises 156 politicians, 168 managers in the civil service, 146 trade unionists, 150 journalists, 154 managers and 154 bankers.
