    Attitudes of elites and persons influencing opinion on questions of economic policy. Topics: most important tasks of large concerns; expected development of the Dollar exchange rate to the end of 1991 and the growth rate of the gross national product in 1991; inflation expectation for 1991; expected unemployment figures; preferred measures to combat unemployment; judgement on the importance of European cooperation in selected areas; most able politicians in selected subject areas; print media usage; judgement on German products in international competition; effects of the EC domestic market on selected areas of business in the FRG; prediction for the Federal Parliament election; effect of a red-green coalition on the economy; party preference; preferred measures for flexible regulation of working hours; area of business affiliation and personal interest in areas of business; importance of various characteristics for companies. Also encoded was: position and area of responsibility of respondent.

Sampled Universe
Persons influencing opinion in areas relevant to economics policy. The following were defined as target groups for the survey: politicians, senior officials, trade unionists, journalists, managers and bankers.

The investigation is part of a trend survey conducted every two years since 1973. Besides the repetition of a series of identical question formulations, current economic policy topics are additionally surveyed. The first study of this series is archived under ZA Study No. 1632. Further surveys: ZA Study Nos. 1633 (1985), 1634 (1987), 1785 (1989) and 2422 (1993). Of the 1117 opinion makers 748 were interviewed in writing and 177 orally in FRG West. In FRG East 192 opinion makers were only interviewed orally. The entire respondent group is comprised of 204 politicians, 193 senior officials, 181 trade unionists, 184 Journalisten, 178 managers and 177 bankers.
