AbstractLiving conditions, moral orientations, political orientations and readiness for political conduct of young people. Topics: General contentment with life (scale); self-classification of extent to which grown-up; most important characteristics and characteristics of adults as well as specification of those characteristics already attained oneself; frequency of different concepts and views in comparison to one´s family, circle of friends, colleagues as well as in comparison to the entire population; trust in selected institutions such as trade unions, church, judiciary, parties, Federal German Armed Forces, the press, company, Federal Government, the police, the media, the Federal Parliament and Greenpeace; local ties, ties to state as well as with Germany; ignorance of politicians and feeling of political effectiveness; political understanding and complexity of politics; national pride; reasons for national pride; adequate consideration of the interests of the GDR in the unification of Germany; possibilities of learning about the people in the other part of Germany; understanding of democracy (scale); personal advantages or disadvantages from German unification; aspects of personal life affected by unification and current satisfaction in these areas; importance of selected character traits (scale); importance of areas of life; postmaterialism scale; attitude to democracy in general and to democracy in the Federal Republic; attitude to the idea of socialism and to socialism in the GDR; detailed information on current and earlier memberships as well as intensity of participation in the activities of associations, clubs or initiatives; acceptance of functions in these clubs; attitude to and personal activities in peace initiatives, environmental protection groups, self-help groups, nationalist groupings, left groupings, human rights groups etc.; understanding of the role of women (scale); women and professional career; attitude to National Socialism and attitude to a leadership role in Europe (scale); rassist attitudes; attitude regarding foreigners (scale); self-classification on a left-right continuum; sympathy scale for the parties; fair share of gross national product; anomy scale; uncertainty and rapid change in social conditions; desire for and realization of equal rights for women and men in professional life; interest in politics; frequency of political conversations with parents, spouse, friends, school friends and colleagues; readiness for political participation and general attitude to political activity. Demography: training aspiration; occupational satisfaction; desire for children; growing up with parents, step-parents or single parents; religiousness; year of birth; month of birth; living in parental household; time of leaving parental household; living together with a partner; possession of a telephone; living together with others of about the same age and number of foreigners among them; regional origin and length of residence in the state. Also encoded was: residential area; housing situation; assessment of social class of respondent; assessment of political interest and political knowledge of respondent; length of interview; date of interview; municipality code; identification of interviewer; sex of interviewer; age of interviewer.
