    Quality of life, housing situation and urban image of Halle. Topics: Satisfaction with the apartment and the living environment; length of residence in this apartment; owner of the inhabited real estate; number of living spaces; number of square meters of the apartment; living equipment; monthly rent or charge; modernisation levy; incidental costs included; desired relocation in the next two years; possible reasons for relocation; activities to find an apartment; preferred status of the new apartment; intended acquisition of residential property; nature of the desired residential property; purchase price expectations; preferred place of residence; preferred condition of the new apartment; problems in the living environment; assessment of different residential area types according to picture templates; classification of own residential environment into one of the aforementioned residential area types; preferred residential area; solidarity with the city and the district inhabited; living in Halle since birth; image and specific characteristics of the city Halle ( scale ); most important wishes for the 1200th anniversary of the city of Halle in 2006; expected effects for Halle at a possible Olympic participation in 2012; most important municipal tasks; assessment of urban redevelopment; frequency of visits to the city centre; preferred means of transport to the city centre; satisfaction with selected infrastructure facilities in the inner city; satisfaction with selected aspects of the retail sector and the gastronomy in the city centre; desired additional offers or changes to increase the attractiveness of the city centre; political interest in general and municipal interest as well as interest in the participation in a party; intention to vote; party preference (Sunday question); assessment of the current and expected own economic situation as well as the situation in the eastern German the federal states and in the city of Halle; assessment of one´s own job security; workplace in Halle; importance of selected life principles and value orientations (scale); greatest worries by: increased cost of living, ruthlessness, violent crime, fraud, possible apartment loss, pollution, immigration of foreigners, right-wing radicalism, left-wing radicalism, illness and unemployment (scale); importance of selected living conditions, communal institutions and municipal services (scale); satisfaction with these municipal facilities and benefits; life satisfaction; assessment of the personal future. Unemployed people were also asked: duration of unemployment; sources of income; plans for continued employment. Demography: duration of residence in Halle; sex; age (year of birth, grouped); marital status; steady life partner; school leaving certificate; occupational qualification; occupational activity; current occupational Position; household size; household composition: number of children under the age of 6, from 6 to 9 and from 10 to 18 years; net household income; sources of household income. Additionally coded was: respondent commented on the survey; interest in survey results; household type; weighting factors.

Sampling Procedure Comment: Simple disproportional random sample from the register of the residents´ registration office, stratified by sex and age. In urban districts with low population numbers an increased number of cases was obtained.
