    Political orientations, moral concepts, situation in life and interests of young people in Poland and Germany. Topics: Type of school attended and class level; self-classification between being a child and adult (scale); desire for agreement with parental life style; age at conducting process of separation from original family and development of occupational independence and autonomy as well as in establishing development levels in planning for the future; sympathy for selected nationalities; personal contact with persons abroad; self-classification of knowledge about the Soviet Union, Poland and the GDR and assessment of the knowledge provided by the school about these countries; assessment of typical characteristics of Poles; parents still living; social origins; personal housing situation or living in parental household; relationship with father and mother; personal concepts of child-raising in comparison to the parents; interest in selected topics such as fashion, politics, sport, health, music; judgement on the prospects for the future or fear of the future; perceived conflicts between selected social groups; satisfaction with attending school and most important reasons for satisfaction or dissatisfaction; favorite subjects; education goal; perceived burden from school or work (scale); vocationally oriented moral orientations; satisfaction with school achievements; social and personal disposition; idols; planning for the future and outline for life; place, partner and preferred leisure behavior; frequency and type of athletic activities; watching television and preferred television broadcasts; frequency of reading daily newspapers; playing a music instrument; use of tobacco; use of alcohol; experience with narcotics and drugs; use of tranquilizers; relationship between young people and adults (youth-centrism, scale); attitude to political participation and social commitment in selected areas; judgement on parties, organizations and initiatives as representatives of personal interests; contact with concerns and needs; stating contact person in selected problem areas; attitude to foreigners, nationalism and authoritarianism (scales); judgement on the German-Polish relationship (scale); friends in Poland or Germany; agreement of one´s own view about Poland or Germany with the views of aquaintances, friends and family members; sources of information about Poland; attitude to recently-arrived ethnic Germans from Eastern Europe (scale); self-classification on a left-right continuum and classification of father and mother on such a continuum; clique affiliation or group affiliation; distribution of gender in one´s circle of friends; self-classification of religiousness; number of siblings; size of circle of friends; steady partner relation; willingness to participate in further surveys.

The survey procedures in the three subsamples differ. In Western Germany the entire process was with a standardized individual survey in the residence of the respondent. The Polish survey deals as well with an individual survey however with a higher proportion of open questions. in the East German investigation a standardized instrument was used as in the West German investigation but with a mixed form of group interviews (school classes) and individual interviews.
