Description
  • Abstract

The Southeast Florida Regional Travel Characteristics Study (Travel 2000) was intended to document how Southeastern Florida residents use the streets, highways, and transit services in the region. Respondents were asked to record their travel and activities for a 24-hour period. They were also asked for detailed information regarding their trips, including mode of transportation, trip purpose, departure and arrival times, and number of passengers. Demographic variables include gender, age, employment status, household size, number of children in the household, whether household members were students on their given travel day, household income, and whether respondents had a valid drivers license at the time of the survey.
  • Methods

ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection: Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes..

ICPSR cannot confirm which of the five surveys included in the Southeast Florida Regional Travel Characteristics Study are represented by this data collection. According to the depositor, this study is not only a household travel survey - it also includes a transit on-board survey, a visitor's survey (where data was collected at hotels/motels), a trucking survey, and a business survey. The depositor notes that the survey data were all rectangularized in the same file under the "hhid" column, which is not representative of the 5,100 households interviewed.

Due to incomplete documentation and duplicate variable labels, this collection has been minimally processed by ICPSR.
