    Attitude to democracy and the political system. Changes from unification. Topics: personal judgement on reunification at the time of survey; judgement on the last few years of the GDR and perceived desire for change; solidarity with one´s own city, with one´s state, with the FRG, before unification with Germany as a whole, with the European Community, with the old states or with the new states and their citizens; stressing governmental independence or increased mergers as preferred future political world; attitude to the idea of democracy; satisfaction with democracy; understanding of democracy (scale); social trust; general contentment with life; attitude to selected citizen dutys and forms of political participation such as: continually being informed, regular election participation, trusting politicias, alertly and skeptically following politics, observing laws, defending oneself publicly against unjust laws, exercising government loyality or government criticism, being active in political groups, parties and citizens´ initiatives, permitting criticism of democracy, defending democracy against its opponents and making a social-political effort; respect for one´s own country and defense preparedness in the case of threat; personal sense of responsibility; evaluation of the possibilities of citizens to influence politics; uncertainty in political discussions; judgement on the interest of politicians in desires and concerns of the citizen; understanding of politics; judgement on the possibilities to influence politics between elections; classification of the parties as representatives of voter interests; national pride; most important reasons for not answering the question on national pride; most important reasons to be proud or not be proud of the nation; attitude to the idea of socialism (scale); attitude to socialism as realized in the GDR; satisfaction with the achievements of the Federal Government and the achievements of the parties in the Federal Republic; attitude to a leadership role of Germany in Europe and agreement with a superiority of the Germans regarding other peoples as well as attitude to the idea of National Socialism (scale); attitude to foreigners (scale); attitude to National Socialism (scale); judgement on the process of reunification and the relationship of the West Germans to the East Germans (scale); preference for maintenance of security and order or free expression of opinion in the form of demonstrations (scale); approval of the use of governmental force against demonstrators and strikers; postmaterialism (Inglehart index); interest in politics; self-classification on a left-right continuum; judgement on the current economic situation in the country over-all; expected economic development; preference for social security in a welfare state or for more personal responsibility; judgement on the reality of social security in Germany; dogmatism, authoritarianism, anomy (scales); conformism: adaptation to friends; agreement with majorities and opportunism; participation as well as desire to participate in citizens´ initiatives, collection of signatures, boycott and demonstrations as expression of political participation.
