  • Abstract

    The aim of the research was to evaluate the extent and dissemination of prejudices against different target groups, such as migrants, ethnic and cultural minorities, Jews, Muslims, women, homosexuals, homeless people and people with disabilities, and to analyse the causes of these prejudices. In particular, it was necessary to examine similarities and differences between European countries. For this reason, both old and new EU member states were selected, which differ in integration policy, immigration history and rate as well as general prosperity. The sample includes respondents from different geographical regions in Great Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Poland and Hungary. In each country, about 1000 people were interviewed who were representative of the citizens of the respective countries and had a minimum age of 16 years. In total, the data set contains 8026 cases. Demography: country of birth; nationality; migration background of parents or grandparents; sex; denomination; religiousness; attendance at religious services; age (grouped); marital status; long-term partner; partner is born in the country; children; highest level of education; age at the end of education; for the respondent and his partner was asked: current or former employment status; working hours per week; self-employment, employment in the public or private sector; worry about becoming unemployed; worry about partner becoming unemployed; size of household; main source of household income; household total net income; internet access in the household; number of telephone numbers in the household; willingness to participate again; consent to saving of personal data. Additionally encoded was: original national ID of respondent; country; ID of interviewer; interview date; duration of interview; interviewer ID; weighting factors; split; sex of interviewer; migration background of interviewer (not in France); generated regional information and context characteristics of the individual countries (e.g. for Germany: federal states, government districts, BIK community type). Interviewer rating: evaluation of respondent´s question understanding.
