Households with migrant workers in the cities Shanwan and Kafr Shanwan (province Minufiya, Delta), Tamboul El Kubra and Kafr Youssef (province Dakhliya, Delta) and also Abu Girg and Bani walims (province Minya, Upper Egypt).

The time of interview is organized as follows: two villages were interviewed between May and July 1987. The data in the other four villages was collected between May and July 1988. The interviews were conducted in Arabic by Egyptian interviewers from the respective villages. Extensive qualitative materials (participating observations interview notes) were collected in the framework of the same research project. Two further quantitive data sets of this research project are archived in the Central Archive under ZA Study Nos. 5011, 5013 and 5023.
