  • Abstract

    With the study on environmental consciousness in Germany the development of the environmental consciousness and the environmental behavior of the population in Germany is been researched in a two-year cycle since 1996. The aim is to understand the patterns of thought and action in society and to anticipate the needs of different population groups. Wave 1: Value of environmental protection and environmental policy, climate protection policy, assessments of environmental quality, environmental settings, perceived environmental pollution, dietary behavior, mobility behavior, changes in motivation and willingness to make changes, and commitment to social and ecological change. Wave 2: Measures on climate adaptation, other aspects on climate protection policy and mobility, the readiness to buy green products, noise awareness, nitrogen pollution and the willingness to pay for ecosystem services.

German-speaking persons aged 14 and over in private households
Sampling Procedure Comment: Recruitment survey: Probability Sample: Multistage Sample Survey Sample: Probability Sample from the forsa.omninet panel. In the forsa.omninet panel Internet users as well as persons without Internet access are represented.
Collection Mode
  • Self-administered questionnaire: CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) For respondents without Internet access, the survey was conducted with a set-top box via TV.
Data and File Information
  • Number of Variables: 296
The representative survey was conducted in two survey waves. In the first wave a sample of N = 2,030 persons was interviewed, in the second N = 2,023. The samples are identical in terms of their structure, but not in respect of the respondents. In total, more than 4,000 people have taken part in the study.
