Description
  • Abstract

The Hanseatic League is defined as a region between England and Flanders in the west and West-Russia in the east, the scandinavian countries in the north, and the central European area in the south. In this room, the majority of Hanseatic merchants pursued their economic interests. (1) The joint project "Economic Changes in the Hanseatic Economic Area 1300-1800": The Research Project on the economic changes in the hanseatic economic area was supported by the Volkswagen-Stiftung in the framework of the priority programme “Research on Early Modern History: The Old Kingdom in a European context”. The research project was an international joint group of researcher with it’s center at the research center for the history of the hanseatic league ("Forschungsstelle für Geschichte der Hanse und des Ostseeraums") at the office of Culture of the hanseatic city Luebeck (Amt für Kultur der Hansestadt Lübeck). The group consisted of 35 researcher of ten European Countries and of Canada. Economic change situations are the long-term fluctuations of economic variables, e.g. the population size, the yield of agriculture and the price level. The fluctuations of these variables changed their relationship, which led to a structural change in the economy. In the pre-industrial, "Malthusian" era, ups and downs arose due to the constantly changing relationship between production (especially in the agricultural sector) and population development. Target of the Project: The aim of the project is to describe and analyse the intertemporal relationships of this area, the economic structure and the changes over time in the context of the regional and international relationships. The project aims to pursue the intertemporal relations of the economic structure and the changes in the regional and "international" relations for the Hanseatic economic area on the basis of historical-economic time series. Central Regions: Three central regions have developed, for which a relative dense amount of data available and which differ in terms of their economic structure. 1. the Dutch-English area, characterized by a dense industrial landscape, which was aimed at the export of cloth, other fabrics, and metal products; 2. the area of Wendish Hanseatic cities (Hamburg, Lübeck, Lüneburg, Wismar, Rostock, Stralsund, Greifswald, which also includes Stade), which was primarily characterized by intermediate trade and had little own export production; 3. the Prussian / Polish-Livonia area, characterized by the export of agricultural and forestry raw materials and semi-finished goods, which went mainly to the centers of the West, to the Netherlands and to England. (…)Since the exact knowledge of the local and regional conditions is a prerequisite for the description of a time series and for the determination of their indicator quality, the individual time series are processed by historians, who are very familiar with the respective local and regional conditions. Therefore, the researcher come from different countries which cover a geographical range from Ghent and London in the west to Tallinn and Moscow in the east, from Stockholm and Visby in the north to Leipzig in the south. Functions: According to their function the data series are categorized into four groups: - agricultural production and mining (Sector 1) - commercial production (handiwork) (Sector 2) - trade and service (Sector 3) - and price rows Per category there has been collected the following time series: Sector 1: Time series on salt, silver, copper and lead production, raw ore production, yields of mines, workforce numbers; Time focus: late 16th century to 1800 Sector 2: Time series on cloth, beer, vinegar and coin production Sector 3: sovereign and urban tariff revenues of various differentiation, urban taxes on the sale of different goods, excise revenues of various differentiation, goods import and export, turnover of goods, ship frequencies, escort fees, urban real estate and bond markets, wages etc. Price rows: Prices of Cloth, rents, foodstuffs such as cereals, butter, oxen, herring, etc., other consumer goods such as firewood and tallow. (2) Subproject: Hanse: Mining region Harz: Yield and production rates of the mines in Clausthal, Lauenthal, Wildemann and Zellerfeld, 1640-1800, researcher: Christoph Bartels The study on the "mining region of Harz" comprises a total of 24 time series from the period between 1640 and 1800. The time series deals with agricultural production and mining sectors (sector 1). The data are offered by the region (e.g.: Clausthal) and name of the mine (e.g. Grube Carolina). - Tabelle A.01.01 Clausthal: Grube Carolina - Ausbeute, Förderung, Belegung - Tabelle A.01.02 Clausthal: Grube Dorothea - Ausbeute, Förderung, Belegung - Tabelle A.01.03 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Christian Ludwig - Ausbeute, Förderung, Belegung - Tabelle A.01.04 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Georg Wilhelm - Roherzförderung - Tabelle A.02 Lautenthal: Grube Lautenthals Glück - Ausbeute, Förderung - Tabelle A.03 Wildemann: Hütschental-Spiegeltaler Gangzug - Förderung und Belegung - Tabelle A.04 Zellerfeld: Grube Windgaipel – Förderung Auflistung und Beschreibung der einzelnen Zeitreihen nach dem Schema Reihe_ID: Titel der Reihe (Zeitraum von – bis) Beschreibung: Tabelle A.01.01 Clausthal: Grube Carolina - Ausbeute, Förderung, Belegung Z190 Clausthal: Grube Carolina - Ausbeute Z206 Clausthal: Grube Carolina - Roherzförderung pro Woche Z207 Clausthal: Grube Carolina - Roherzförderung pro Woche, Umrechnung Z222 Clausthal: Grube Carolina – Belegung Tabelle A.01.02 Clausthal: Grube Dorothea - Ausbeute, Förderung, Belegung Z109 Clausthal: Grube Dorothea - Ausbeute Z204 Clausthal: Grube Dorothea - Roherzförderung pro Woche Z205 Clausthal: Grube Dorothea - Roherzförderung pro Woche, Umrechnung Z221 Clausthal: Grube Dorothea – Belegung Tabelle A.01.03 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Christian Ludwig - Ausbeute, Förderung, Belegung Z192 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Christian Ludwig - Ausbeute Z200 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Christian Ludwig - Roherzförderung pro Woche Z201 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Christian Ludwig - Roherzförderung pro Woche, Umrechnung Z219 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Christian Ludwig – Belegung Tabelle A.01.04 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Georg Wilhelm - Roherzförderung Z202 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Georg Wilhelm - Roherzförderung pro Woche Z203 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Georg Wilhelm - Roherzförderung pro Woche, Umrechnung Z220 Clausthal: Grube Herzog Georg Wilhelm – Belegung Tabelle A.02 Lautenthal: Grube Lautenthals Glück - Ausbeute, Förderung Z193 Lautenthal: Grube Lautenthals Glück - Ausbeute Z196 Lautenthal: Grube Lautenthals Glück - Roherzförderung Z197 Lautenthal: Grube Lautenthals Glück - Roherzförderung pro Woche, Umrechnung Z216 Lautenthal: Grube Lautenthals Glück - Belegung Tabelle A.03 Wildemann: Hütschental-Spiegeltaler Gangzug - Förderung und Belegung Z210 Wildemann: Hütschental-Spiegeltaler Gangzug - Roherzförderung pro Woche Z211 Wildemann: Hütschental-Spiegeltaler Gangzug - Roherzförderung pro Woche, Umrechnung Z223 Wildemann: Hütschental-Spiegeltaler Gangzug - Belegung Tabelle A.04 Zellerfeld: Grube Windgaipel - Förderung Z208 Zellerfeld: Grube Windgaipel - Roherzförderung pro Woche Z209 Zellerfeld: Grube Windgaipel - Roherzförderung pro Woche, Umrechnung
