  • Abstract

    The German Ageing Survey (DEAS) is a longitudinal survey for the analysis of life situations and biographies of people in the second half of their lives. The data is based on nationally representative surveying (cross-sectional and longitudinal) of some thousand participants from the age of 40 onwards.

    Up to now data of the DEAS have been collected in 1996, 2002, 2008, 2011 and 2014. In 2002, 2008, 2011 and 2014, previous participants have been re-surveyed (panel).

    In 2011 as in the previous survey years, the following topics
    have been conducted:

    •         Social Participation and Voluntary Work
    •         Partnership, Family and Intergenerational Relations
    •         Household and Social Network
    •         Living Arrangements and Mobility
    •         Economic Status and Saving
    •         Social and Financial Support
    •         Quality of Life and Well-Being
    •         Health and Health-Related Behaviour
    •         Help and Care-Dependency
    •         Attitudes, Norms, Values and Images of Old Age

Panel Sample (N=4854, corrected number of respondents compared to version 1.0): repeated survey of participants from the previous base samples.

The anonymised data sets of the DEAS are available for secondary analysis. The data has been made available to scientists at universities and research institutes exclusively for scientific purposes. The use of data is subject to written data protection agreements. Interested scholars fill out the application form, receive and sign a data distribution contract and then gain password-protected access to data and documentation.
Rights of use are at the German Centre of Gerontology (DZA), Berlin.
