  • Abstract

    Reconstruction of the social, economic and topographical structure of the city of Freiburg in the late middle ages based on a previous alphabetical and referenced and topographical identification of the persons and objects contained in the Freiburg citizens book. Topics: Names of persons, location information (origins, residence), social characteristics (sex, occupation, function), time information, relatives, relationship to Burgensia, relationship persons-objects, entry-specific information (origin of the entry, original entry, language, office references etc.), object-specific information (number, nature, situation, spatial relation).

Sampled Universe
The approx. 2200 entries (with approx. 7000 names) of the first Freiburg citizen book; altogether 2158 men and 11 women were identified.

Collection Mode
  • Sources: Systematic development of the first Freiburg citizen book. The ´citizen book´ served to record the admission into Freiburg citizenship; for every admission it contains name information (family name, mostly first name, rarely forename), nature and location of the objects of security (building, land etc.) and the citizenry condition (admission, change, loss); the coding was done according to the Edition of B. de Vevey and Y. Bonfils (Le premier Livre des Bourgeois de Fribourg, 1341-1416, Fribourg 1941) and according to the original in the holdings ´Grand Livre des Bourgeois en papier´ of the government archive Freiburg.
