    Attitude to questions of security policy and judgement on disarmament proposals by elites from the area of security policy. Questions on development of the Western European Community. Topics: Fundamental philosophies to the image of society, the image of the government and access to social power; channels of personal political influence; reasons for personal ´impact´ in questions of security policy; personal information interest in the security policy area and change of personal interest; judgement on official information policy of the Federal Government; sources of security policy information; assessment of the development of the East-West relationship and perceived reasons for the non-war; assessment of the stability of the situation in Central Europe; dreams as well as concrete expectations regarding integration of the Western European nations and of the relationship of Europe with the USA; desired role of the Federal Republic due to its economic and military potential in the area of the UN, securing of peace and policies on developing countries; assessment of the military threat to the FRG in the 70´s and 80´s; judgement on the military strategic concept of ´deterrence´ and the effects of the economic interconnections of East and West; assessment of the causes for armament with the two superpowers and the causes of war in general; attitude to the CSCE conference and knowledge about the room for MBFR negotiations to reduce troops; attitude to a one-sided prior concession of the West in disarmament negotiations; justifiable changes of financial expenditure for the defense budget; demand for organizational changes in the Federal German Armed Forces; attitude to conscientious objection and compulsory military service as well as judgement on the fairness of military service; attitude to a general service duty for women also; assessment of integration of the Federal German Armed Forces in society; attitude to political participation and co-determination by soldiers; image of the enemy of the Federal German Armed Forces; attitude to arms export and supervision of arms policies; scenario constructions on desired and expected developments of Europe. Demography: membership in a party, trade union or other organizations; age; religious denomination; school education; vocational training.

Sampling Procedure Comment: The sample of persons took place in two stages: 1. sample of organizations and institutions relevant to security policy (such as parties, trade unions, industry, media, military forces, military associations and science) as access to potential security policy actors. 2. sample of elites according to the position procedure.
