    Attitudes to topics of domestic policy. Topics: 1. Questions of domestic policy: satisfaction with democracy; party preference; behavior at the polls in the last Federal Parliament election; trust in public institutions (scale); importance of federal institutions (scale); willingness to participate in legal and illegal forms of protest (scale); understanding for illegal or violent protest actions; preferred development of society (scale); most important goals of domestic policy; judgement on contacts with authorities as well as the government view in private matters; understandability of laws; reason for problems with authorities; attitude to the right to vote for foreigners and easing acquisition of German citizenship; contacts with foreigners; attitude to reduction in proportion of foreign workers; attitude to the right to asylum; attitude to playing the National Anthem on special occasions; national pride; attitude to the federal flag; satisfaction with the economic situation and with selected areas of politics; acceptance of citizens of the GDR as Germans; threat to public safety as well as perceived increase in the threat; jeopardy to public safety from demonstrations. 2. Attitude to Europe: preference for national or European solution of selected political problems; assessment of the advantageousness of EC membership for the Federal Republic; interest in the impending European Election; intent to participate in the election; classification of the importance of parliament decisions at municipal, Federal and European level; expectations of the common domestic market in Europe; increase in difficulty of combating crime through elimination of border checks; self-assessment on a left-right continuum. 3. Attitudes to media and personal media behavior: attitude to commercial radio and commercial television; cable connection or antenna reception for commercial television; interest in reception of commercial television; perceived disturbances from advertising in commercial broadcasters and in broadcasters under public law; willingness to pay higher radio fees to eliminate commercials; reception of broadcasts of the Deutsche Welle and the Deutschlandfunk during stays abroad; judgement on quality of information and reception of these broadcasters. 4. Attitudes to environmental protection: attitude to requiring installation of catalytic converters in new cars; car possession; catalytic converter in one´s own car; interest in catalytic converter installation or purchase of a vehicle with catalytic converter; time of purchase or modification; influence of tax advantages on modification; use of unleaded gasoline in one´s own car; using unleaded when getting gas; assessment of the proportion of air pollution from cars, coal-fired power plants, private furnaces, industrial facilities and garbage incinerating plants; assessment of the improvements achieved in these areas in the last few years; comparison of air pollution from coal-fired power plants and nuclear power plants; living in the vicinity of a sports and play facility; perceived disturbance by the facility; attitude to a prohibition of sports facilities in residential areas; perceived noise pollution from traffic, industry, neighbors and playing field; importance of environmental protection measures in the areas air, inshore waters noise, trash, soil and ozone layer; availability of collection containers for used glass and personal participation in recycling of used glass and paper; preference for disposable packaging or returnable bottle; willingness to collect empty cans separately; pre-sorting of household trash in a ´green trash can´; delivering hazardous waste to collection point designated for this. Postmaterialism; year of birth and month of birth; government examination or diploma; religiousness; party inclination. Also encoded was: district code and city code.
