    Attitudes of elites and persons influencing opinion on questions of economic policy. Topics: Most important tasks of large concerns; preferred measures to combat unemployment; judgement on the importance of European cooperation in selected political areas; expected effects of the European domestic market on the German economy; area of business affiliation with the electronics industry, motor vehicle industry or chemical industry as well as personal interest in these areas of business; importance of selected characteristics for businesses; frequency of reading selected newspapers and magazines; judgement on German products in international competition; trust in the Federal Government to solve waiting economic and political problems; most important problems of the Federal Republic; agreement with selected recommendations to secure the business location Germany; preferred measures for flexible regulation of working hours; party preference. Also encoded was position and area of responsibility of respondent.

Persons influencing opinion in areas relevant to economic policy. Defined as target groups for the survey were: politicians, trade unionists, journalists, managers and bankers.

The investigation is part of a trend survey conducted every two years since 1973. Besides the repetition of a series of identical question formulations additional economic policy topics current at the time are also surveyed. The first study of this series is archived under ZA Study No. 1632. Further surveys: ZA Study Nos. 1633 (1985), 1634 (1987), 1785 (1989), 2290 (1991) and 2422 (1993). As also in the year before, the survey persons were selected at random from address book publishers. The investigation was conceived as a written survey, but in this investigation again additional oral interviews were also conducted to reach the number of cases sought: 150 interviews per group in the old states and 30 interviews per group in the new states.
