The study was conducted in 12 waves (as longitudinal section). The individual waves are archived under ZA Study Nos. 6149 to 6160. The content and methodology of this study were continued in the follow-on Interval Study IS II, conducted in 1979/80 to 1985 with an older (ZA Study Nos. 6161 to 6166) and a younger (6187 to 6192) cohort in 6 waves each. The study 6194 contains the entire dataset for the 11th wave of the IS I and is thus more extensive than the corresponding file of the longitudinal section. The plan and structure of the entire Interval Study is presented in detail in the structure summary G01 with the following summaries: summary on conducting the individual survey instruments over the entire panel, summary on assigning the variables to the respective characteristic complexes, summary on the structure of the sample over the entire panel, summary on the structure of the sample regarding the respective characteristic complex as well as pairs and combinations of characteristic complexes within a survey wave.
