Social science and economic research organizations are authorized for DOI registration (individual researchers are also eligible via GESIS self-archiving as of 2012). Research data at the study level, aggregate data, microdata as well as qualitative research data are all eligible digital objects.

DOI-registration is via a user account provided to the publication agent by da|ra. A Service Level Agreement (SLA) must be completed with a da|ra operator (GESIS, ZBW) prior to the granting of a user account.

The SLA regulates the contractual relationship between the da|ra operators (GESIS Leibniz Institute for Social Sciences or German National Library of Economics Leibniz Information Centre for Economics) and the publication agent within the framework of the DOI registration on the basis of the general terms and conditions of the current version of da|ra Policy.

The Service Level Agreement covers the following:

  1. Service description
  2. DOI name assignment, object type and granularity
  3. Technical interfaces and workflow
  4. Metadata description and updates
  5. Warranty and liability
  6. Terms of use
  7. Cost model
